All packed and raring to go!
Brakenhale School CCF Outdoor Activities Weekend
Over a long weekend starting Friday 20th May 2022, 32 cadets from Brakenhale School CCF were lucky enough to be able to take part in a mixture of outdoor activities.
The weekend took place at Avon Tyrrell Outdoor Activity Centre
The aim of the trip was to allow cadets to build on their confidence and resilience following what has been a really hard few years. Some of the cadets had to overcome fears while also learning to manage their own mental health anxieties.
The trip allowed for the cadets to also try new and exciting activities, such as Abseiling, High rope course, The leap of faith and other great outdoor activities.
Over the 3 days the cadets showed real team bounding and also formed friendships that will last a lifetime.
Time to be committed to the jump and have trust in yourself!
One cadet in school finds the learning environment very difficult to manage but during the 3 days away at Avon Tyrrell he was not in any classroom sets, his academic abilities were not looked at, he was just one of the cadets and during the 3 days his leadership skills and commitment to his peers really came out. He said on the Saturday night:
“Sir thank you for bring me with you on the trip, I have now got some friends and I can see now why everyone wants to be part of the CCF because everyone is just nice and we get to do amazing things like all this, I have never done anything like this before and without you bring me I would never have got to do it, so thank you Sir.”
Cadets making friends for life and just enjoying being outdoors.
The impact of the trip on our cadet’s mental health is something that you cannot put a price on; but without the grant from The Connaught Trust the trip would not have been able to go ahead and our cadets would not be so full of life and walking about with beaming smiles like they now are. So, on behalf of all the CFAV’s and the Cadets at Brakenhale School CCF, THANK YOU for the amazing support and generosity you have provided our CCF.
