New classroom equipment for Sussex Army Cadet Force

"Thanks to the Connaught Trust’s generous grant, we can now improve the Cadet Experience not only for today’s Cadets, but for generations of Cadets, for years to come. It’s a real game changer for everyone who walks through the door of No 13 Detachment.” Officer Commanding Delta Company, Major (ACF) Jim Boyden

While the Army Cadet Force is sponsored by the MOD, there are a number of other organisations that can occasionally assist us with funding. The Connaught Trust has funds available to promote military efficiency within the Cadet and Reserve forces in the South of England. While they mainly give grants to units based in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight, subject to sufficient funds being available, they can help units as far afield was West Sussex to Wiltshire.

The Connaught Trust exists to provide funds to promote the military efficiency of all ranks serving in units of the Army Reserve, the Royal Naval Reserve, the Royal Marines Reserve and the Royal Air Force Reserves as well at the Cadet Units in the area.

Recently, No 13 (Shoreham By Sea) Detachment, Delta Company, were successful in their bid for just under £5,000 to the Connaught Trust. This was to purchase some badly needed new classroom supplies to improve their learning environment.

This included the purchase of modern, contemporary furniture, including desks and chairs that are actually comfortable, useable and H&S compliant, and, with the increasing digitisation of the Army Cadet Syllabus, this grant also provided a new smart board and stand where aspiring Cadet Leaders can now confidently deliver lessons using modern technology.

This grant benefits not only every Cadet in the Detachment location, but also, Cadets from other Detachments because No 13 (Shoreham by Sea) Detachment is frequently used by others for Delta Company activities, such as our bi-annual Potential Leaders Cadre. As furniture and smartboards have a long lifespan, this generous grant has enabled the purchase of items that can be repeatedly used by future generations of Cadets, not just those who are immediately attending the Detachment.

Detachment Instructor, Sergeant Instructor Kat Black, said “This will make such a difference to the learning experience for the Cadets and it’s a real treat to give them a modern learning experience. Thanks to these extra items, we are now able to run 3 classes at a time for different subject levels.”

Officer Commanding Delta Company, Major (ACF) Jim Boyden said, “Thanks to the Connaught Trust’s generous grant, we can now improve the Cadet Experience not only for today’s Cadets, but for generations of Cadets, for years to come. It’s a real game changer for everyone who walks through the door of No 13 Detachment”

All ranks of Delta Company send their sincere thanks to the Connaught Trust for their generosity!
