Summer Camp activities on the water for VCC Hampshire Cadets

Volunteer Cadet Corps cadets from the Hampshire area attended summer camp at HMS Raleigh and conducted many afloat activities at Jupiter Point. There was a concerted effort this year to ensure we provided our Navy Cadets with a greater afloat experience, and thanks to the Connaught Trust we were able to provide these activities by using the cadet boating station at Jupiter Point.

These activities included, paddlesports, dinghy sailing and power boat courses, for many cadets and staff. We were able to powerboat rescue courses to a handful of staff that will increase our skills base for future activities. However, more importantly this is the first time we have been able to provide and deliver a comprehensive training package providing experiences in a multitude of afloat activities. This challenged many throughout the week but all gained valuable skills and experiences, additionally all cadets involved in afloat activities were able to gain a basic qualification in one of the disciplines they participated in. This proved to be one of the highlights of the week and there was certainly a sense of achievement when the cadets received their certificates.

Elsewhere we made use of the HMS Raleigh's facilities and cadets experienced the assault course and low ropes challenge where they developed communication and teamwork skills and of course jumping in water is always fun!

Overall the cadets developed valuable skills and experiences that was made possible by the Connaught Trust.
